ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to determine the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students’ attitudes towards computer in descriptive type.
Study population consisted of 122 students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade at an elementary school in Ankara during the 2011-2012 academic year. Sample selection was not conducted; all students (122) studying in the classes specified were included in the study.
More than half of the students (57.4%) who participated in the study was composed of girls. The mean score of the students’ attitudes towards computer is 59.16±9.39. It has been found out that the factors increasing students’ attitudes towards computer are, being at the age of 14 (p<0.01), using computer to research and learn (p=0.014), the idea that technical features of a computer is enough for games (p=0.025), thinking that computer games are not harmful (p=0.040), feeling that the stress is increasing during a computer game (p=0.030), and feeling more intelligent after a computer game (p=0.027).
It is found that the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students’ attitudes towards computer was at the middle level, and attitude towards computer is affected by some demographic features.
